Interview Tips

Kickstart your career with confidence! Discover essential interview tips for graduates, including how to prepare, what to expect, and how to make a lasting impression.

Before the interview

1. Research BG Private: Take the time to understand our mission, values, culture, and service offerings. Demonstrating knowledge of who we are shows genuine interest and helps you tailor your interview responses to align with our purpose.

2. Understand the role: Carefully review the job description. Identify the key skills and responsibilities, and reflect on how your academic, volunteer, or work experience relate to the role.

3. Prepare your pitch: Craft a brief and concise introduction that highlights who you are, what you’ve studied, and why you’re excited about the opportunity to join BG Private.

4. Practice common questions: Prepare and practice your answers to frequently asked interview questions. E.g. why did you choose your degree? What are your strengths and weaknesses?

During the interview

1. Dress professionally: Even for virtual interviews, dressing appropriately shows respect and professionalism. Remember – first impressions matter!

2. Be confident: Speak clearly, maintain eye contact and show enthusiasm. It’s perfectly normal to be nervous – just be yourself and let your personality shine through.

3. Ask thoughtful questions: Prepare 2–3 questions to ask the interviewer. Remember, interviews are a two-way street – this is also your chance to assess whether the role and company align with your goals. For example, what kind of training is available for graduates? Can you tell me more about the team I will be working with?

4. Highlight transferable skills: If you don’t have relevant experience, focus on skills gained from university projects, internships, part-time jobs, hobbies, or extracurricular activities.

5. Clarify next steps in the process: Show that you are engaged and proactive by asking about timelines and what to expect after the interview.

After the interview

1. Send a thank-you email: Thank the interviewer for their time and reiterate your interest in the role.

2. Reflect and learn: Take a moment to reflect on your interview experience. Ask for feedback from the interviewer on how you could improve your interview technique. This will help you grow and prepare for future opportunities.
