Hiring process

Step 1 – Get to know us

Research BG Private and follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram. If you are enthusiastic about joining a leading Hawthorn-based firm, we would love to hear from you.

Step 3 – First interview

The first-round interview will take place on Zoom, MS Teams or in person at our office. You will meet some of our Recruitment team. During this interview we will discuss your experience, skills and career ambitions. You can find information about the best parking and public transport to our office here.

Step 5 – Assessment task

In some cases, we may ask you to do an assessment task. The assessment task varies based on the role and involves completing a short task that allows the hiring panel to assess your skills more accurately.

Browse our current vacancies. Applying directly through our website means there are no third-party recruiters, which makes recruiting you much easier. We will review your application and chat with you directly, to assess if your needs and ours are a mutual fit.

Step 4 – Second interview

During the second-round interview you will get to meet your prospective Manager and one of the Partners. They will assess your technical competence and whether we are a good match. They will also explain the nature of the work, a typical day, your team, the types of clients you’ll be working on, and what your career progression may look like. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and find out whether BG Private is right for you.

Step 6 – Offer made

We select our staff carefully, but we also like to move quickly. We will make an offer to successful candidates and conduct reference checks. You will be sent an employment contract via Docusign to review and sign. If you are unsuccessful, we will always let you know via phone or email.

What to expect when you join us

One week before you start

In the week before you start, your Manager will phone you, as will your Buddy. This is to ensure you have everything you need for your first day. We will ensure you know what’s what and what’s not for your first week and answer any last-minute questions you may have.

 

Week 1

On day one, you will be welcomed by your Buddy who will show you around the office and introduce you to your team. Your Buddy is your go-to person for any questions you have.

 

We know that the first week in a new job can be a bit overwhelming, but your team will make you feel welcome.

 

Your desk and computer will be set up and our Admin and IT teams will be on standby for any tech issues.

 

Feel free to bring your lunch (we have microwaves, toaster, sandwich press etc). Alternatively, there are lots of good places to grab lunch on Glenferrie Rd. We also have a fruit bowl to help yourself to a snack or biscuit jars full of sweet treats.

Month 1

During your first month, we will give you a detailed induction including BG Private’s history, purpose, people, service offerings, and culture.

Month 6

Within your first few months you’ll be invited to a welcome morning tea hosted by our Partners. And, you’ll be introduced at one of our all staff meetings.

We have a six-month probation period. Upon passing, you will be linked with a mentor who can provide advice and insights as your career journey evolves.

Month 12

We like to celebrate one-year anniversaries with a little gift, a double movie pass on us. In addition, performance, pay reviews and annual promotions take place in June-July each year. Depending on when you start, a December pay review may also be offered.

Feedback is provided organically throughout the year. Formally, however, there is a 6-month probation meeting and annual performance reviews are in June every year. At this time, your performance, progression, and personal and professional development are discussed. We assist you to set goals for achievement for the next 12 months.

BG Private is an approved Business Sponsor, although in most cases we prefer to hire people with full working rights in Australia. In limited cases we offer sponsorship for a skill set which is difficult to find locally.
